It’s that time of year again for the Black History Month Virtual Potluck! Can you believe it has been a year already! If you missed last year, don’t worry you can check it out here!

Fried Peach Pies
 
These mini fried peach pies are crispy, flaky and delicious.They are filled with a cinnamon peach filling then fried to perfection.
Recipe type: Dessert
Serves: 13-14
Ingredients
  • Pie Crust
  • 2¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ cup of butter (1 stick), grated
  • ½ cup of water, cold
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • Filling
  • 2 peaches, peeled, pitted, and diced
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup canola oil
Instructions
  1. Pie Crust:
  2. In a large bowl combine flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder.
  3. Add butter and coat flour until tiny bits of butter is incorporated throughout the flour.
  4. Add vinegar to water.
  5. Add water to flour mixture until the dough comes together.
  6. Set mixture in the refrigerator.
  7. Filling:
  8. In a small bowl, mix the first 5 ingredients. Set aside.
  9. In a small bowl, mix the flour and water.
  10. In a medium-sized heavy skillet over medium heat, melt butter.
  11. Add peaches and stir.
  12. Sprinkle sugar mixture over peaches and stir.
  13. Add flour/water mixture(slurry) and stir.
  14. Cover and cook about 7 minutes until tender.
  15. Remove from heat and let cool.
  16. Assemble:
  17. In batches roll out dough to ⅛ inch thick cut out thirteen or fourteen 4 inch circles. Place about a tablespoon of the cooled filling a little of center on the circle. Fold over the dough then crimp with a fork. Repeat until done.
  18. In a large sided skillet, heat about one inch of oil over medium-high heat. In batches making sure not to overcrowd the skillet fry pies until they are golden brown, about 5 minutes. Place on a plate lined with 2 paper towels.

    I’ve never made pies because I’m intimidated by the process. I’m also not a good baker. Dee, you really made the recipe sound simple. I’m saving this for when I’m feeling ambitious.

    Peach cobbler is my favorite dessert. Now that I can make fried peach pies from home, I’m sure this will be my new favorite. Yum!
